Lifestyle assessments
Having a lifestyle assessment is a great way of finding out just how fit or unfit you are and can identify the key areas to focus your exercise programme on.
Lifestyle assesments take no longer that 15 minutes to complete and your results are recorded with an explanation the scores mean. Each time you are assessed you will be able to compare against past results to see just how much your health and fitness levels have improved.
Lifestyle assessments provide a great resource for setting specific health and exercise goals that can actually be measured and subsequently achieved, remember there's no better boost in motivation than actually achieving your goals!
What tests are involved?
Height and weight
Simple height and weight measures are needed to fulfil other tests.
BMI
Body Mass Index, a quick ideal body height & weight calculation which is accepted as the quickest marker for the overall make up of your body composition, the higher the score the more you need to think about loosing weight.
Blood pressure resting heart rate
Blood pressure gives a good picture of the general condition of your cardiovascular system. It can highlight if your heart is overworked and if there are any possible detrimental problems waiting to happen. High blood pressure is silent - people don't know they have it till something happens - that's why it is important to test for it.
Resting heart rate
Resting heart rate is a good indicator of the efficiency of a person's heart. The slower the heart beats the stronger and more efficient it is. A slower heart is beneficial as it does not have to beat as much to do the same work and as such gets more rest! Exercise builds the muscle of the heart making a more efficient heart and one that beats slower at rest!
Peak flow lung efficiency
This measure records the efficiency of your lungs.
Flexibility
The sit and reach flexibility measurement is widely accepted as good indication of general flexibility and mobility. Poor flexibility can over time reduce a person's capacity to do simple things such as tie shoe laces!
Body fat percentage
Body fat percentage is an important measurement for overall health. Too high a reading puts a person at a high risk of Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes and other associated heath problems. Too low a reading can lead to serious metabolic problems.
Cholesterol
Generally speaking the lower the cholesterol reading the better, however an optimal level is ideal and this would be less than 5. Please note the test you will receive is only a basic snap shot and if you have a high reading it would be advised you visit your GP for a detailed cholesterol test. High blood cholesterol is a major contributor towards CHD.
